Super solid mounts

My bike has a BMX style handlebar. The bottom tube is 1-1/4 inch, this clamp fits great, love it. The top bar is just 7/8 inch, which is where I want this clamp for my phone mount. I was told I would have to use a 1-1/4 inch clamp, with spacers. Luckily, I had some from years ago, in a junk box I kept of old bike parts. It works, and I don't expect there to be a 7/8 inch, but why not a 1 inch?
